Nebraska Defeats Arizona 3-1 in Dairy Queen Classic

The fourth-ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers (7-2) moved to 2-0 in the Dairy Queen Classic with a 3-1 victory over Arizona (9-5) on Saturday, Mar. 4 at the HHH Metrodome.
With the loss, the Wildcats fell to 1-1 in the Dairy Queen Classic. Arizona will wrap up its tournament schedule against Notre Dame on Sunday, Mar. 5 at 11 a.m.
The two teams went into the top of the eighth inning tied at 1-1 after strong performances from both starting pitchers. Bryce Nimmo started the inning with a single up the middle. Nick Jaros moved Nimmo over to second with a sacrifice bunt. Nimmo advanced to third on a wild pitch, and came on a go-ahead RBI double by Ryan Wehrle to move the score to 2-1.
Nebraska added an insurance run in the top of the ninth to move the lead to 3-1.
Tony Watson started for the Cornhuskers and gave up one run in six and a third innigs, while striking out eight batters. Jared Cranston came in for Nebraska to get the final outs of the bottom of the seventh inning, and ended up picking up the win to move to 1-0. Brett Jensen pitched two shutout innings to close out the game for Nebraska to pick up his first save of the season.
Arizona starter Preston Guilmet took the tough luck loss, as he gave up six hits and two runs in seven innings, while striking out seven Nebraska batters. The strong outing came one day after the Cornhuskers had scored 11 runs in the Dairy Queeen Classic opener.
